Know What, Fuck You Verizon
When I went off to college we had AT&T which we quickly learned had a terrible network in eastern Oklahoma. I constantly got dropped calls around campus, so when our contract came up for renewal my mom switched over to Verizon (where she also got a company discount). The network was better, but then something funny starting happening. See my sister started getting $1.99 data charges on her phone month after month. She swore she didn’t do anything to charge data, but as the customer rep said “She had to have did something”. My mom then told them to block data to her phone totally. But the charges kept showing up.
Seems this kind of thing is a rather popular item with Verizon, and why not they get to rip their customers off while telling them it’s their fault. Verizon walks away with the dough, and you can’t do anything to dispute it. And here’s the even better thing, when you ask them to block data you can still get charged (emphasis mine):
“Now, you can ask to have this feature blocked. But even then, if you one of those buttons by accident, your phone transmits data; you get a message that you cannot use the service because it’s blocked–BUT you just used 0.06 kilobytes of data to get that message, so you are now charged $1.99 again!
“They have started training us reps that too many data blocks are being put on accounts now; they’re actually making us take classes called Alternatives to Data Blocks. They do not want all the blocks, because 40% of Verizon’s revenue now comes from data use. I just know there are millions of people out there that don’t even notice this $1.99 on the bill.”
I was actually looking forward to picking up the Droid when our contract comes up again, but you know what Verizon? Fuck You. I don’t care if your network is better, if you’re going to fuck with customers like you do it’s not worth it.
